The Royal Academy for Overseas Sciences and the Egmont – Royal Institute for International Relations organised Power Profile 2025, an annual international conference dedicated to analysing the domestic development, foreign policy, and defence strategy of a major global power. Each edition is held in collaboration with leading partners from the country under study.
The 2025 edition focused on the United States, which remains the most powerful of the great powers, with the largest economy and unmatched global military projection capacity. The conference examined the evolving direction of U.S. political strategy, highlighting a shift toward more transactional—and at times strained—relations with long-standing allies in Europe and Asia, as well as a more selective commitment to the rule-based international order.
A keynote address provided an in-depth analysis of American grand strategy, followed by a panel discussion exploring its global implications and domestic drivers. The conference aimed to better understand the future trajectory of the United States, recognising its decisive influence on the broader course of international politics.
