EU-China at 50: Prospects for the Future

Marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the European Union and the People's Republic of China, this conference assessed opportunities to deepen the relationship and establish more concrete cooperation on issues of shared interest.

The first session examined global governance, emphasizing that global players bear global responsibilities, particularly in maintaining peace and security. It highlighted the importance of strong multilateral institutions and agreement on shared rules as key elements of stability in a multipolar world.

The second panel focused on the economic relationship, noting that both the EU and China share an interest in maintaining global connectivity. A stable and equitable bilateral economic relationship was presented as a cornerstone of the global economy.

The final session addressed the human dimension, underlining that academic and cultural dialogue are essential to mutual understanding. It was concluded that broader and deeper exchanges between the EU and China, at all levels, contribute to building confidence.
