Challenges in Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecology

Since 2024, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Royal Academy for Overseas Sciences (Belgium) (RAOS) have organised an annual meeting on a topic of common interest.

This year, the two academies once again wish to organise such a meeting. We envisage organising it in collaboration with several partners, including, on the Chinese side, the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XIEG), the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) and the Institute of Oceanology (IOCAS), among others. On the Belgian side, we can already mention Ghent University and the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences as co-organising partners.

The chosen theme for the 2026 meeting is Challenges in Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecology. We will explore current environmental issues, emerging research and innovative approaches to understanding and managing ecosystems in both terrestrial and aquatic environments. We look forward to exchanging ideas and fostering collaboration. The meeting is open to contributions on all subjects related to this theme.

The meeting will take place in Brussels on 7 and 8 December 2026, at the Palace of Academies, rue Ducale 1, 1000 Brussels.

Participation is free of charge, but registration is compulsory.
